What better way to more thoroughly understand light than by experimenting with it!
Mirror Image--how does reflection effect what you see?
Group four takes their turn at Mirror Image reading secret messages!
Can you see it? Mitchell places a transparent object over his reading material.
Alex determined opaque coins would indeed not allow light to pass through preventing her from reading!
Levi uses a translucent tissue paper to try to read through.
Group three uses their mirror, water and flashlight to try to make a rainbow!
Will group two have success making a rainbow?
Kaleidoscope color--watching how color changes take effect!
What happens when secondary colors are mixed?
Group three tries their hand at mixing colors.
All good scientists make their predictions!
All good scientists record their results!
On April 4 we spent a fabulous day on a field trip enjoying Schiele Museum of Gastonia! Enjoy the slide show of some of the highlights and hijinx!

I got tickled by the class playing "Weather News Report" during indoor recess March 28.
They used a large map to forecast where the fronts were coming from and where they were traveling.
Students fill their rain gauges to the baseline zero before heading outside to set them out for readings.
Below are your notes on severe weather, weather instruments and predicting weather. Your test will be the week of March 18. Make sure you are studying each night!

WHOA!!!! NOW you know why we practice Earthquake drills!!! Boys and Girls I was watching the Olympics at Mrs. Janicke's house and I FELT HER HOUSE SHAKE!!!! http://on.doi.gov/1c8dhgO WE HAD AN EARTHQUAKE!!! Hopefully you were in bed sleeping BUT if you were also up late on this Valentine's Day watching the Olympics I wonder if you felt it, too?!?!?!
Miss J enjoys the weather and practices her nontraditional bobsledding in the Snow!
Whatta we want? A SNOW DAY? Whendawe want it? NOW!!!
Mrs. Watts and Miss Ellisor check the skies to see if the rain will change to snow!
Below are your notes for section4-4.1 The Water Cycle and 4-4.2 Clouds. Study then for your test January 13.

Remember to review the study guide you made for the various types of precipitation!
Scroll through the slide show to see us making our own clouds!
Our first attempts reading and predicting weather forecasts on January 27
We tried the bubble experiment again on January 24 when it was 13 degrees F and a windchill that felt like 8. We were out for about 10 minutes and our BUBBLES FROZE!! Adrienne saw online people were freezing t-shirts and making them stand and suggested we try it. It didn't work on Wednesday but it did today! Check it out!!!!
with record breaking low temperatures to accompany our weather unit, we went outside 1-22-14 to see if bubbles really would freeze in 17 degree temperatures, although they hardened and became slightly leathery we didn't see them quite become solids
Below are your notes on the water cycle. Use these in addition to the Cloud Notes you'll be receiving soon to prepare for your next science test!

We had a lot of fun learning about planets! For this activity we used a cupcake frosted with yellow icing to represent the sun, doughnut holes (obviously not to scale) represented each planet with icing dyed for the unique make up of the planet's atmosphere or surface and an asteroid belt separating the terrestrial planets from the gas giants was made of candy corn, pretzels and marshmallows. ONLY after students could name all the planets could they enjoy a TINY portion of the solar system. They took the leftovers home to have a galaxy size snack! Click on the picture below to scroll through the fun!
Sean's solar system
Niya's asteroid belt is very full of "space trash"!
Caroline has made it to Jupiter in her identification!
Ansleigh is almost done as she points to Saturn.
